This was the third year of St. Timothy’s clothing distributions to the Episcopal Church Center (ECC) in Ocean Beach. The program, coordinated by Andy Waters and Sue Embick, continues to deliver clothing items to in-need San Diego residents. Response from the congregation to this ministry has been outstanding, with many items brought in to our collection point in the narthex. Four times a year on a Saturday near the end of the month, the clothing is taken to the ECC by St. Timothy’s parishioners and distributed directly to ECC clients. This “face to face” ministry continues to thrive and give parishioners an opportunity to serve the community outside the walls of the church.
There are two ways to participate in this ministry for those that want to help. First, we need clothing donations! Clean, gently used items such as shirts, pants, jackets, sweatshirts, socks, and blankets are in high demand. There is some small need for women’s and children’s clothing, but the overwhelming majority of ECC clients are adult men. There is a blue bin located in the narthex of St. Timothy’s for those that wish to drop off items. Second, we need volunteers to help distribute the items. Trips to the ECC are announced at least 2-3 weeks in advance in the Sunday bulletin and St. Timothy’s Tidbits. We meet at 7:30 am on a Saturday and carpool down together and are usually back by 10:00 am.
