Donate your Grove/Field
We are excited about
the opportunity to use your grove to help feed people in need in San Diego
County. This will give you some background and necessary information before
proceeding to the next step.
All of the fruit harvested is donated to The San Diego Food Bank, our local
affiliate of Americas Second Harvest (www.sandiegofoodbank.org).
The San Diego Food Bank provides food and services to more than 125,000
individuals each month. The people who turn to the San Diego Food Bank for
help are children, families, seniors and the working poor across all areas
of San Diego County. Once the fruit harvested from your grove has been
weighed, you will be provided with a donation receipt for tax purposes.
Our volunteers come from a variety of churches and volunteer organizations.
These are dedicated people who want to spend their time helping to feed
people. We are not professional pickers; we do what we can to capture fruit
that would normally go to waste. The groves are picked with care, by hand
and pickers. No machinery or equipment will be used. To minimize liability
no ladders are used; your groves will not be “stripped” but we make every
effort to pick completely from a tree before moving on to the next tree. To
remove any liability from the grove owners and the San Diego Food Bank all
volunteers are required to sign a liability release form; copies can be
provided to grove owners if needed. In addition, grove owners are protected
under the Good Samaritan Act, which release you from any liability from
volunteers or donated food.
Everyday someone in San Diego County goes to bed hungry. The food we collect
can help in a family's struggle to survive and ensure a child's right to
succeed. Thank you in advance for your interest in this project.
