Blessing of the Animals at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church

In honor of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, hosted by St. Timothy’s

St. Timothy’s invited all in the community to bring their friendly animal companions (dog, cat, mouse, bird, snake, ???) to our back parking lot to be blessed in the blessing of the animals in honor of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the environment.

The blessing was offered outside in the East parking lot of St. Timothy’s at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2011. Fr. Willy Crespo officiated. Refreshments were provided and there is no charge to attend.

St. Francis of Assisi (1182-1226) was the founder of the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor. Francis was so at peace with God that legend says that wild animals did not fear him and would come around him when he would walk outside.

We love our pets, and they are a gift out of God’s creation. By having them blessed, we acknowledge the grace that God gives us through his creatures.

Fellowship also occurs whenever and whereever St. Timians are gathered -- especially before services, after services, during Sunday morning coffee hour, etc. In particular, many of the classes offered at St. Tim's deliberatedly include the opportunity for fellowship.
