The Episcopal Church invites all baptized Christians to receive Holy Communion. We believe in the mystery of Christ's Real Presence in the consecrated bread and wine. The spiritual requirements of receiving communion are that we examine our lives, repent of our sins and sincerely strive to live in love and charity with all people. "We have a word for thanksgiving in Greek. Its called "eucharist." It is the central action of our life as Christians. It is the pattern of our existence. Jesus took the bread, blessed it, broke it and gave it to his disciples. Jesus too, is taken, blessed, broken and given to us. As his disciples then, this pattern is ours as well. If we really want to be the people of the eucharist, we will allow ourselves to be taken by God, taken and set apart by him for his own use. We are then blessed by him, bearing in ourselves the very presence of the Spirit of Christ. If we yield to that Spirit we will then be broken... broken of our pride, our addictions, our self-sufficiency. After the breaking we are then offered to others. We then allow Christ to give himself away through us to others. That is the eucharistic reality of our life. That is the essence of our practical "spirituality." Eucharist means thanksgiving. May your life be a litany of self offering and thanks. Bless you and your families on this coming Day of Thanks." A Thanksgiving Day note from Fr. Josh
